Chapel of St Finn Barr - "Honan Chapel"
- The Collegiate Chapel of St Finn Barr was completed in 1915.
It was designed in Hiberno Romanesque style by James F McMullen
The stained glass windows are by Harold Clarke and Sarah Purser.
It is known colloquially as the "Honan Chapel" in tribute to its donor.
An inscription on the wall reads:
"Of your duty pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Mattew Honan
who died on the XV11 of April MDCCCXC1V and of Robert Honan
who died on 11 of November MCMV11 and of Isabella Honan
who died on the XV1 of August MCMX111 part of whose wealth acquired
during several generations in commerce in the City of Cork has been
devoted to the building of this collegiate chapel of St Finn Barr for the
scholars and students of Munster and to the foundation and endownment
of the adjoining Honan Hostel.
May they rest in peace"
